Hi Guys -

This is probably the only time that I'm going to be contributing to LiveJournal while I'm in Iran, but I've been checking my e-mail every few days, so I'm not totally out of touch. I've seen a lot of really cool stuff in the past few days including 7000 year old artifacts, a 1000+ year old man, the ruins of Persopalos (I don't know how to spell that, but in Farsi it's Takht-e Jamsheed), and really beautiful carpets.

This place is very different from what I imagined.
#1 - the traffic is horrible!!! I'm talking cars passing others on the wrong side of the street, motorcycles going any way they want on the street or on the sidewalk, and 2-way rotaries (illegal of course). Everyone also seems to be making U-turns all the time; my mother says that U-turns are now "mod" (that French word for "in style")

#2 - Tehran is more crowded than New York city

#3 - the pollution is baaaaad

#4 - Women in Iran wear more make-up than women in the US

#5 - nose jobs are also mod (that French word again).

I was so high when I left school that I couldn't move my belongings from my old room into my new room, and I certainly couldn't pack correctly. I forgot so much back at school.

In particular, I forgot my cell phone charger. So if anyone is trying to contact me, call my Granny's:
(617)566-1015.

I should have a new charger tomorrow...I hope.

I did nothing today. I just moped around my house once my friend's visit came to an end. Now I have to look forward to going to family weddings and parties in the motherland for the next month. Yippee.

I'm not actually dirty, but I certainly look like it. Last night I went to bed with wet hair (yes, I took a shower) and woke up 15 minutes before class only to find that my new haircut and pillows do not like each other. I had really bad bedhead. Then I put on a hat (which happens to be wool (which I think I'm allergic to (mostly because I want to scratch my skin off when I wear wool (which ultimately makes me look like I'm breaking out in hives (not to mention I'm breaking out with stress pimples because of Smith))))))))))))). I thought I would eventually be able to take my hat off before my bio presentation in the afternoon - but my hair still looked awful at 1pm. I think I'm going to at least switch to something non-wool.

Yesterday I completely re-did my bio lab notebook - I felt like a complete fraud - oh wait, I am. I hope my lab instructor doesn't notice. My elbow hurts so much from writing and drawing pictures of cells for 12 hours. If only I were ambidextrous. Well - I got two big things done today. Only a few hundred more to go before the end of the semester!

I'm not drunk, but I thought it might be fun if I pretended that I was. I've only been inebriated a few times in the past few months - that's a pretty bad record for someone who's in college. After my exams are over, I'm going to open a beer and head for the shower.

Maris I'm coming over and I'm taking you into town!

I did 117 calculations lat week - only to find out that I had been using the wrong formula. Oops. So - I just did them over - this time a little bit faster I think.

It was interesting seeing my whole family (minus my dad) for the holiday. I found out that my house is going to be "For Sale" as of Feb. 1 (even though I've spent the last year moving out of it, and haven't even finished yet). Long story.
It makes me very happy to be back at school.

One thing I learned this Thanksgiving is that I haven't forgotten my Farsi - this will come in handy when I visit my family in the homeland.

Maris and I went to Molly's performance last night at Mendenhall. Molly was singing in a dance performance - she had a SOLO - I was so proud. Unfortunately though I didn't get to see any of the other performances that happened before hers. I ended up falling asleep after the first few minutes (they turned off the lights, and played soothing music - how could I not fall asleep) - waking up to hear Molly sing - and then rushing out of the building before the next performance started (I needed to do my homework - yes on a Saturday night).

Today I'm stuffing things in my head and hoping that they won't fall out until after I take my cell bio test on Tuesday morning.

Last week Maris asked me, "Dorna, are you going to write in your live journal?"
And I said, "I'm scheduled to write in it tomorrow! It's in my planner!" Unfortunately, I was lying; I hadn't written it in my planner - so I forgot until I actually did schedule it into my planner about 5 minutes ago.

Kelley - you can stay at my house for Thanksgiving. We need people to sub in for everyone who has moved back to the homeland. It'll probably be your first Iranian Thanksgiving - Fish, rice, and koo-koo (it's vegetarian for you!). I guess I'll just invite you to my home at lunch in an hour.

I failed a lab report last week. 47/100. That has certainly never happened to me before - especially on a lab report that I spent over 12 hours writing up. Apparently my lab instructor didn't like the way I did my derivations (with equations instead of complete fucking sentences), and a few other things. I went to her office and punched her in the boob.
